Courtney South Is Doing What Works

How do you move forward?

Former Eugene Mission guest and current volunteer Courtney South shared wise advice that applies to everyone: "Keep doing what's working!"

Courtney, who graduated from the R3 program this summer, first came to the Mission after mental health challenges led to a time in jail, which turned out to be a blessing because she was able to stabilize and receive medication. From there, she came to the Mission.

Courtney credited the stability and structure of the R3 program as important factors in her recovery, as well as regular communication with caring staff. She said practicing sleep hygiene, structured meal times and classes were all helpful.

"I was also really excited about the Life Skill idea," she shared about her time helping in the Mission kitchen. Her assignment included helping to serve meals and clean certain areas of the kitchen. "To have a sense of responsibility, knowing what to do and at what time, was really helpful. And I felt like I was a part of their team!"

Now she's back volunteering as part of a plan with her therapist to continue doing what's working.

Congrats Courtney!
