Restoring Lives Through Steady Support
Guest John Wilson came to the Mission after a series of hardships showed him that he needed steady support if he was going to get his life back.
He had always been a hard worker and held various jobs, including as a lumberjack and as a Certified Nursing Assistant serving the elderly, but injuries, the COVID pandemic and becoming disconnected from loving relationships pushed him into a depression.
He began using alcohol to cope with his depression and ended up in the hospital. From there, he came to the Mission, where he says support from staff, including his Navigator Tanya Miner, showed him he could forge a path forward.
He said it was the relationships that most helped him heal.
“They treat you like a person here,” he said.
John came here shortly after the new R3 program launched, and says the changes transformed the Mission from a place where people came to stay, to a place where guests receive the help they need to restore their lives through classes, life skills, and healthy connections.
Guests who come to the Mission may experience significant barriers to independent living, including addiction, mental health challenges, or deficits in life skills. Our guests remain supported in their growth while working through those barriers.
“I’d probably be dead right now if this place wasn’t here,” John said. “If you need to get off the street, you need to come here.”
We're proud of you, John, and looking forward to a bright future.
