On October 9th, for a marathon 24 hours, Eugene Mission Executive Director Sheryl Balthrop sat on a bench and had thought-provoking, inspiring and challenging conversations with people from all over our community.

As part of a nationwide initiative called Conversations on a Bench, the livestreamed event allowed us to deeply connect with our community, hear stories from people who have lived experience with homelessness and spark Hope.

Though the event is over, the story goes on! We are inspired by the heartfelt participation in this project, by the hearts that opened and by the voices that were heard. We want to thank everyone who participated, volunteered, and made this incredible opportunity possible.

While we certainly provide our guests with food and shelter – and do so with an abundance of God’s love – the Eugene Mission’s ultimate goal is to provide holistic long-term solutions that lead to the long term wellness of our guests in Eugene/Springfield.
