Northwest Community Credit Union Donates $10,000 to Help Renovate Eugene Mission Kitchen
Bi-Mart, University Fellowship Church and others generously help Eugene Mission
Eugene, Oregon – – Northwest Community Credit Union, Bi-Mart, University Fellowship Church, Firefighters Union, Vinnie’s Smokin BBQ, and other generous community-minded businesses and individuals have donated funds, food and other resources to help the Eugene Mission continue to serve 750 meals per day and sleep more than 400 homeless people per night while it renovates it’s kitchen and dining room that were destroyed by fire early this morning.
“We are blessed with the outpouring of generous community support to help the Mission continue to provide food, beds and wellness opportunities to our homeless neighbors to get off the street and on a path to live their best life, ” said Jack Tripp, the Eugene Mission’s executive director. “We are thankful that no one was injured in the fire and that the damage was limited to the kitchen and dining room. “
Tripp says the Mission will continue to operate “full speed ahead” while the kitchen and dining room are renovated over the next months. However, the Mission needs ready to eat food, propane, kitchen equipment, and food stuffs. The Mission expects to secure a mobile kitchen for use during the renovation period.
Northwest Community Credit Union has been joined by other businesses, churches and individuals to help the Mission through this challenging time by providing monetary support as well as food, supplies, and basic kitchen equipment.
“We are honored to be in the position to assist the Mission in meeting the insurance deductible so they can quickly get on the road to renovation and recovery,” said John Iglesias President/CEO of Northwest Community Credit Union. “The credit union provided a $10,000 donation Thursday morning in response to the news of the fire.” The credit union is also providing a team of volunteers to assist with the meal service in response to the Mission’s call for support from the community.
Bi-Mart will deliver a truckload of canned goods, nutrition bars, cereal and other supplies to the Mission on Friday morning.
“We are thankful for Northwest Community Credit Union’s and Bi-Mart’s quick, generous support,” Tripp said. “We are so appreciative for the support and prayers from so many community members who are stepping up to help the Mission.”
Community members have three ways they can support the Mission during the kitchen and dining room renovation:
