About Us

The Path Off The Streets Begins Here.

Welcome to the Eugene Mission! We are not a homeless shelter in the traditional sense. While we certainly provide our guests with food and shelter – and do so with an abundance of God’s love – the Eugene Mission’s ultimate goal is to provide holistic long-term solutions that lead to the long term wellness of our guests.

We first offer Hope by providing a path off the streets through our short term Rescue Shelter. Once stabilized, the real work begins – the work of transitioning our guests permanently out of homelessness and back to a healthy community through the transformational programming of Life Change or the R³ Academy.

Our Approach

Our approach to homelessness addresses its root causes – disconnection – by sharing Hope and offering Revitalization Programs tailored to the specific needs of each guest. Our model is called “Rescue + Revitalize + Restore” (R3). R3 replaces transactional “hand-out” services with relationship-based transformational services, classes and life skills training and provides a path to healthy reconnection. To address the disconnection experienced by our guests, we seek to support the RE-connection of each one to their own health, vocation, faith, and community.

We are committed to being relational. For instance, we want to:

  • Dine with our guests, rather than just hand them a meal;

  • Talk with our guests, rather than just giving clothing or assigning a bed for the night;

  • Encourage and assist our guests with their challenges and barriers, rather than merely providing information and sending them off on their way;

  • Educate our guests; providing them with life skills and tools for the future.

Once stabilized, guests engage in relationship-based, transformational classes, and life skills training, supportive services, and activities addressing each area of disconnection in their lives with tracked progress — all with the goal of permanent wellbeing, independence to the extent possible, and healthy and sustainable reintegration into the community.

Rescue: Shelter & Outreach Efforts

The path off the street for our unhoused neighbors begins with access to a stay in our low barrier Rescue Shelter for up to 14 days, though guests may transition to a program earlier if they’re ready. In the Rescue shelter, a guest is provided with all the basic comforts in a safe environment which allows a person who is in crisis or chronically unhoused to stabilize. Once stabilized, our guests can begin to make choices for their future. A Rescue Shelter guest will have the opportunity for continued shelter and services if the guest seeks admission to one of our transformational programs: Life Change or the R³ Academy.

While on-site services are limited to our residential guests, we have begun regular mobile outreach efforts to reach out to those who are still outside. We will deliver these resources to people in need either through mobile outreach directly or through coordinated agency transfers of essential supplies. We are working closely with community partners to support THEIR residents as well as those completely unhoused in our community.

Restoration Program

The ultimate goal of R3 is for our guests to leave our doors reconnected to their health and to a healthy community. We seek to provide ongoing support to guests to strengthen re-entry into the community via alumni activities, mentoring support, and post-rehousing follow-up.

We are a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization and all donations are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law.
